Woodrow Sams, MD

Dr. Sams is an emergency physician and flight doc at The University of Michigan with a passion for delivering high-quality care in challenging environments. He was previously a fire-medic, critical care ground medic, and flight medic who now works with flight nurses, residents, and fellows to manage critically ill and injured patients during transport. His interests include team dynamics, operational excellence, and improving how we care for patients before they reach the hospital. He attended Oakland University School of Medicine, completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at The University of Michigan, and fellowships in both Emergency Medical Services and Aerospace Medicine. When not in the emergency department, Dr. Sams is at home, spending time with his wife and their four children.
