Richard Bagdonas, MD
Commander Richard Albin Bagdonas serves as a Full Time Trauma/Critical Care/Acute Care Emergency Surgeon at Catholic Health – Good Samaritan University Hospital (West Islip/NY); an American College of Surgeons (ACS) Verified Level I Trauma Center, which has over 1800 trauma activations annually.
He received his Medical Degree from SUNY- Downstate (HSC at Brooklyn), his general surgical training at Yale Affiliated Bridgeport Hospital, Memorial Sloan Kettering Medical Cancer Center, and Nassau University Medical Center; where he formerly served as Program Director Surgical Residency, Vice Chairman Emergency Medicine, Fire/Police Academy Paramedic Program Faculty Instructor, and Physician Liaison for Nassau County’s Medical Control. Dr. Bagdonas completed his critical care fellowship at Baltimore’s R Adam Cowley Shock Trauma Center; where he continues to serve as an ACS Faculty Course Director for their Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Advanced Trauma Operative Management (ATOM), and Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma (ASSET) program courses.
This active US Navy Reservist also still serves the Medical Corps need for continued Resuscitative Medicine training, maintenance of medical readiness, and availability for Military Service deployment.
His most recent publication includes the 11th Edition of ATLS (released in July/2025), as contributing content and comprehensive redesign of its curriculum.
