Joseph A. Zito, MD

Dr. Zito is a board-certified emergency physician and neurocritical care specialist with extensive experience in emergency medicine, critical care, medical education, and emergency medical services leadership. He currently serves as an Attending Physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Lane Regional Medical Center and St. Francis Hospital.

He previously served as Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Lower Bucks Hospital from 2019 to 2023. His leadership experience also includes roles as Vice Chairman of Emergency Medicine at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital and Associate Director of Emergency Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Earlier in his career, he served as Associate Director of Critical Care at North Shore University Hospital at Franklin.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Zito is actively involved in medical education. He is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.

He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset.

He earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine and holds a Master of Health Administration and a Bachelor of Science from Hofstra University. Prior to attending medical school, Dr.Zito trained and worked as a certified paramedicand firefighter.

Dr. Zito is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and holds certification in Neurocritical Care/Critical Care from the United Council of Neurological Subspecialties.

A strong advocate for prehospital medicine, Dr. Zito has served in numerous EMS leadership roles. He is currently the System EMS Medical Director for Catholic Health Ambulance and for multiple fire districts, including Hicksville, Carle Place, Syosset, and Bethpage, andWilliston Park fire departments. He is also a physician voting member of Suffolk REMSCO and participates in the New York American College of Emergency Physicians EMS Committee.

Dr. Zito holds medical licenses in several states including New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Ohio, and Louisiana, and maintains multiple advanced life support certifications including ACLS, PALS, and ATLS.

Through his clinical practice, academic work, and EMS leadership, Dr. Zito remains committed to advancing emergency care, critical care medicine, and prehospital emergency systems.
