Michael W. West, MD
Dr. West is a Trauma / Acute Care Surgeon and Surgical Intensivist, at Good Samaritan University Hospital, American College of Surgeons Level I Trauma Center, where he has served in the Department of Surgery since 2016. He is the Associate Medical Director of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and is actively involved in trauma program leadership, surgical education, research and the training of residents and medical students.
Dr. West completed his General Surgery residency at the SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn, serving as Chief Resident and receiving the Thomas W. Pollack Award for Outstanding Chief Resident in General Surgery. During his training, he also completed a research fellowship at the Microvascular Research Institute, focusing on microvascular surgery and surgical science.
He went on to complete his fellowship training in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Maryland Medical System, the renowned R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, one of the nation’s premier trauma programs. He also completed an Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Fellowship, further expanding his expertise in minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Dr. West is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Society of Critical Care Medicine, reflecting his commitment to excellence in clinical care, education, and academic medicine. His professional interests include trauma systems development, surgical critical care, thoracic trauma and advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques. Outside of his clinical and academic work, Dr. West enjoys aviation and flying as a personal hobby.
